Paul Jayasinha
trumpet, flugelhorn

Paul lives and works in London in the jazz and world music fields. Whilst studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama he was featured soloist with Kenny Wheeler on the CD ‘Walk Softly’. During that time he cut his teeth alongside the likes of Courtney Pine, Jason Rebello and Steve Williamson.

Since then he has played and recorded with many of the leading bands including Alex Wilson (CDs Afro-Saxon, Anglo-Cubano and R&B Latino), Tim Garland (CD Points on the Curve), Monica Vasconcelos (CDs Nois, Nois Dois and Down We Go), Snowboy (MFOS and Mambo Rage), John Etheridge’s Zappatistas (CD Live in Leeds), the Brand New Heavies, Michael Garrick, Clare Foster, Merengada (CD Arrancando) and has appeared on many other albums.

Other bands and musicians worked with include Bobby Watson, Ruben Gonzales, Jean Toussaint, Byron Wallen, Ingrid Laubrock, Gilad Atzmon, Bobby Wellins, Guy Barker, Grand Union Orchestra, Gerard Prezencer, Annie Whitehead, Julian Siegel, Ben Castle, Mike Westbrook Orchestra, Brian Abrahams’ District 6, Randy Brecker, Simone (Nina Simone’s daughter), the London Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Jamaica, Roberto Pla, Gregori Schechter, Stewart Curtis’ K Groove. Paul has recorded on several pop albums (Beatmasters, CJ Lewis, Vanessa Mae, Louis Phillipe) and soundtracks (eg Derek Jarman’s ‘The Garden’). He has appeared on many European TV shows including TOTP and CDUK (Ricky Martin, Stereophonics).

His latin work includes some of the top artists in the world – Guillermo Rubalcaba, Frank Emilio Flynn, Cachaito, Adalberto Santiago (Fania Allstars), Jesus Alemañy, Henry Fiol – whilst in New York he played in duo with Chocolate Armentero and was invited to join Orquesta Broadway on stage.

Paul is also involved in a great deal of educational work with the Associated Board (Jazz Syllabus), Grand Union Orchestra and Scott Stroman.
